Quick View
Door Locks, Multipoint & UPVC, Multipoint LocksERA Latch Deadbolt 2 Hooks 4 Rollers Split Spindle Multipoint Door Lock – Option 1 (top hook to spindle = 610mm)
0 out of 5(0)This ERA Deadbolt multipoint door lock features 4 Rollers, 2 Hooks, 1 Deadbolt & 1 Latch.
ERA multipoint door locks are some of the most popular on the market in the UK. Identifying an ERA multipoint door lock can be straightforward but there are some traps to watch out for.
The first trap is that ERA make locks for a huge number of different door and window companies, many of whom rebrand the locks. Often faceplates are stamped with the ERA logo, but they can also be stamped with brands such as Surelock, Saracen, Spartan, Duraflex, Supa, Westward or Cego, to name but a few.
A good indication as to whether the lock you are identifying is made by ERA is the holdback snib on the faceplate. This is often grey on deadbolt and hook bolt locks and blue on Vectis locks. However, some of the brands named above have changed the colour of the snib to black or green.
Its also worth noting that sometimes ERA locks are referred to Saracen. This harks back to the days when Laird made locks for the double glazing industry, before they were rebranded as ERA.
Most latch & deadbolt ERA multipoint locks feature a split spindle mechanism which makes replacements easier as you only need to be concerned with one locking function. This doesn’t include the SureFire locks, the automatic locking locks and parts 7135113479 and 7145113479, which are lift lever operation.
We’d always recommend removing the multipoint from the door to help identify it. This is especially important if you can’t identify the brand from the faceplate or it has been rebranded.
ERA multipoint door lock gearboxes are very distinctive, with a square design and no corner cut outs. The overall length of the gearbox is 221mm and the width is the backset plus 18mm.
Available in 30mm, 35mm or 45mm backsets, all ERA gearboxes have the same dimensions. They can feature a classic deadbolt with either a standard euro cut out, Invincible cylinder cut out or Vectis 5 lever mechanism. They can feature either a deadbolt or hook bolt (which throws upward). Look out for the British Standard Fortress invincible gearbox which features hardened drill plates.
With the exception of the British Standard Fortress lock and the SureFire, all ERA gearboxes can be interchanged, so if your client needs a hook lock, instead of a deadbolt or a Vectis locking multipoint door lock, contact us and we’ll build the lock to order.
ERA multipoint door lock gearboxes feature a 24mm high latch (with 2 distinctive screws in the latch), a 30mm high deadbolt and 61mm between them. Gearboxes are held on to the faceplate with 4 screws, which is unusual for a multipoint door lock. The first screw hole to the second measures 37mm, the second to the third measures 85mm and the third to the fourth screw measures 43mm.
When measuring the backset, allow 2-3mm for the faceplate, so a 35mm backset gearbox will measure 32mm when not fixed to the strip.
ERA Multipoint locks feature two different hook locking arrangements.
The first is a standard hook which features one of the smallest hook cases on the market. They are really useful when replacing an obsolete lock and the routing is tight.
The second type of hook is a security steel hook, which features a much larger hook case. Upgrading from a small hook to large hook lock can require a little work to the door, to allow the larger hook cases to fit.
All ERA hooks a bi directional, with the top hook throwing upwards and bottom hook throwing downward, for higher security.
ERA Multipoint door lock deadbolts (referred to by ERA as linear bolts) feature an 18mm throw and are chamfered to pull the door against the frame.
Deadbolt locks are most frequently found fitted to timber and composite doors.
Rollers are used for compression, to pull the door against the frame, to help prevent dust or water ingress. They do little for security, but they also have the added benefit of helping to prevent the door from becoming warped as it is supported across its full height. This is dependent on the rollers being engaged into their keeps.
Rollers are normally adjustable by +/- 1mm to help achieve optimum weather sealing.

GU Europa Latch Deadbolt 2 Rollers Lift Lever Multipoint Door Lock
Quick View
Door Locks, Multipoint & UPVC, Multipoint LocksGU Europa Latch Deadbolt 2 Rollers Lift Lever Multipoint Door Lock
0 out of 5(0)This GU Europa multipoint door lock features 2 Rollers, 1 Deadbolt & 1 Latch.
The GU range of multipoint door locks is called “SECURY” and the lever and split spindle operated versions are called “Europa”. GU Secury Europa locks are available as either a lift lever or split spindle nightlatch operation. They feature a number of different locking points, but the configurations are the same, to assist when doors are being manufactured. You may find that some suppliers refer to GU locks as “Ferco” or “GU Ferco”, as that is how they have been historically named, we refer to 92mm PZ locks using the modern name, “GU” while older 70mm PZ locks are called “Ferco”.
Identifying a GU lock is straightforward as GU stamp their logo on the faceplate of their locks. However, if you have an old door to repair, the GU lock may be the old, original style, rather than the new version.
Over a decade ago, GU significantly revised their range of multipoint locks, moving from the old to new style. Once the lock is removed from the door, if you see that you have an old style lock case (with the top corner cut out) then you may be able to repair the lock using a replacement gearbox. However, if you need a replacement lock (for example, if you require split spindle operation, as that functionality is not available on old style replacement gearboxes), it is possible to replace an old GU multipoint lock with the new version. You may find that the centre deadbolt and latch keep need readjusting to accommodate the new lock, but its a simple task.
Most locking point positions will still line up but some adjustment may be required. Early GU locks featured deadbolts that are much thinner than the versions produced today. When replacing new for old, and retaining the existing keeps, you may find that the new, thicker, deadbolts foul the original keeps. We’d recommend changing the keeps to updated versions, designed to accept the new locking points.
GU make their Europa range of door locks with hooks, deadbolts and/or rollers. Locks with rollers feature inbound (i.e. the rollers are closer to the gearbox than the additional locking hook) or outbound rollers (where the rollers are outside of the additional hook lock). This means that some locks may have the same configuration but different measurements. You can double check the description of the products for these measurements to be sure that you have the correct product.
In 1979, Gretsch-Unitas presented the GU-SECURY multi-point locking system with roller cams for doors at the Deubau Trade Fair in Essen, Germany, and launched it on the market. In the years that followed the versions with pin bolt and SH bolt were developed. In 1996, GU created the first self-locking multi-point locking system for doors with GU-SECURY Automatic.
New style GU gearboxes are available in a variety of different operations and one of the biggest ranges of backsets on the market. They are available in 28mm, 35mm, 40mm, 45mm and 55mm backsets with lift lever function, 35mm and 45mm with split spindle function and 35mm only with the Europa Plus fast locking function.
New style GU locks can be differentiated from their old style equivalents by the shape at the top of the gearbox. Old style locks have the top corner removed, whereas new versions feature a vertical groove to help with bolts for handles. The two gearboxes are not compatible, so a new style gearbox will not fit on an old style multipoint lock.
GU multipoint lock gearboxes feature a latch and deadbolt and measure 191mm high (excluding the fixing lugs) by the backset + 16mm wide. The latch is 32mm high, the deadbolt measures 35mm high and there is 54mm from the bottom of the latch to the top of the deadbolt.
GU gearboxes are fixed to their faceplates with 3 screws. The distance from the top to the middle screw is 108mm, while the middle screw to bottom screw is 92mm.
Always allow 2mm when measuring your backset and the faceplate is still attached to the gearbox.
GU refer to their additional locking deadbolts as “MR”. The GU-SECURY MR system provides a multi-point lock which is protected from being sawn through or forced back.
Deadbolts are chamfered to help pull the door closer to the frame for compression.

Ingenious Latch 3 Hook 2 Roller Double Spindle Multipoint Door Lock (top hook to spindle = 710mm)
Quick View
Door Locks, Multipoint & UPVC, Multipoint LocksIngenious Latch 3 Hook 2 Roller Double Spindle Multipoint Door Lock (top hook to spindle = 710mm)
0 out of 5(0)This Ingenious Professional multipoint door lock features 2 Rollers3 Hooks & 1 Latch.
Identifying an Ingenious lock is relatively straightforward, but there are a few pitfalls. If your lock is still in the door, it’ll likely have the brand stamped on the faceplate. Some models also have the Secured By Design logo stamped on the faceplate too. You can double check by looking for a small black snib below the latch. Other manufacturers, such as ERA and Kenrick, also feature a holdback snib on the latch, so the snib isn’t a guarantee. All Ingenious locks feature a central hook that throws downward, rather than a deadbolt.
We’d always recommend removing the multipoint from the door to help identify it. This is especially important if you can’t identify the brand from the faceplate or it has been rebranded.
Ingenious gearboxes have a distinctive double spindle arrangement with centres at 62mm and 92mm. Both followers are unsprung so we’d recommend the use of sprung door furniture. The top corner of the gearbox is also cut out.
The overall height is 230mm and they are fixed to the faceplate with 3 screw holes. The top screw hole to the middle screw hole is 110mm and the middle to the bottom is 108mm.
Both the hook and the latch (which features a screw) are 30mm high and the distance between them is 75mm.
When measuring the backset, allow 2-3mm for the faceplate, so a 35mm backset gearbox will measure 32mm when not fixed to the strip.
Ingenious multipoint door gearboxes feature a small, plastic snib on the faceplate. This can be used to hold the latch back for convenience and to prevent accidental lock outs.
Ingenious gearboxes do bear a resemblance to the Fullex XL series (which are also 230mm), so to double check, we recommend comparing the hook boxes against the pictures as they are distinct.
Ingenious locks feature a couple of different hook locking arrangements.
The first is a standard hook which normally throw upwards, regardless of whether the hook is at the top or the bottom of the door.
The second type of hook is the Duplex, which is higher security. Duplex locks feature a pair of cast zinc hooks that throw towards each other and resemble crab claws. The Duplex locks feature a larger hook case than the standard hooks, so if you are upgrading and the routing on the door is tight, the hook box holes may need to be enlarged.
Rollers are used for compression, to pull the door against the frame, to help prevent dust or water ingress. They do little for security, but they also have the added benefit of helping to prevent the door from becoming warped as it is supported across its full height. This is dependent on the rollers being engaged into their keeps.
Rollers are normally adjustable by 2mm to help achieve optimum weather sealing.

Winkhaus AV2 Latch Only 2 Hooks Multipoint Door Lock – Autolocking
Quick View
Door Locks, Multipoint & UPVC, Multipoint LocksWinkhaus AV2 Latch Only 2 Hooks Multipoint Door Lock – Autolocking
0 out of 5(0)This Winkhaus AV2 multipoint door lock features 2 Hooks & 1 Latch.
The AV2 autolock multipoint lock was introduced by Winkhaus in 2008 and it was designed to offer convenience to users and to maintain security standards. The result is a lock that operates as soon as the door is closed, without the need to lift the handle to engage the hooks.
The quickest way to identify the product, before removing it from the door, is to check the faceplate. You’ll spot a Winkhaus logo and, often, a Secured by Design logo. The AV2 version of the Winkhaus is identified by checking the operation of the lock.
Usefully, all Winkhaus locks feature the same routing details. Therefore, if you wish to change the locking operation, or upgrade to automatic locking, its a straightforward process. New keeps and handles may be required.
Winkhaus AV2 autolock multipoints are often specified on fire doors which require multipoint locking. Fire Door tests require doors to be tested in the latch position only, without the locking points being engaged. This is to simulate how a door may be commonly closed, however, it can create problem with achieving a satisfactory fire test result as the door leaf can bow and twist in the heat. The problem is eliminated with AV2 as the lock engages automatically in three positions helping to hold the door leaf in place against the intumescent seals and thereby achieving a fire door rating. Please note that the fitment of an AV2 lock does not mean that the door meets fire door standards and you should take specific advice.
Av2 autolocks are commonly fitted with a motor to allow for motorised locking and unlocking of doors. The locked door can be opened from the inside as usual with the door handle, or from both inside and outside using potential hands free opening products such as fingerprint, audio/visual intercom systems or even face recognition.
All Winkhaus gearboxes, apart from the AV4 measure 185mm high x backset + 15mm, making them the smallest gearboxes on the market. They measure 64mm between the latch and deadbolt and 63mm from the spindle to the top of the gearbox. They also feature a groove above the spindle to aid in the fitment of handles with a screw above the lever.
Winkhaus AV2 multipoint lock gearboxes feature an alloy sprung latch and nickel plated steel deadbolt. Most AV2 locks also feature an independent central deadbolt, but a latch only version of the lock is also available.
AV2 gearboxes are distinctive as they are handed. Certain models have a latch reversal screw which, in theory, makes it possible to reverse the latch on an AV2 gearbox. However, the hooks on the lock cannot be reversed and many AV2 gearboxes will have the latch reversal screw blanked off, so you should chose the appropriate handed gearbox when replacing a broken lock.
Winkhaus gearboxes are attached to the faceplate with a set of rivets. These can be easily removed and replaced for gearbox swaps but makes Winkhaus relatively unique (and therefore easier to identify) in the market. Please refer to our guide and video on how to replace a Winkhaus gearbox for full details.
Please note that you may have encountered a really old Winkhaus gearbox that is attached to the faceplate with screws, with a passivated yellow finish. The sticker on the side (red = key wind and blue = lift lever) will denote the operation of the lock. These locks were handed and are no longer available.
The autoLock AV2 features two solid hooks which throw automatically when the door is closed, ensuring complete claw engagement and security against the lock being pushed back. As the door locks automatically, a security risk is eliminated for users that may find it challenging to lift a lever.
Please note that these hook boxes are handed as they sit slightly offset, ensuring greater compression against the frame.
Winkhaus Autolock AV2 hooks also have the added benefit of being thrown when the door is closed, ensuring that the door is held in place across its entire length. This helps prevent doors from becoming warped or bowed.
