Surelock Multipoint Gearbox – Lift Lever or Split Spindle
Surelock multipoint door lock gearboxes are very distinctive, with a square design and no corner cut-outs. The overall length of the gearbox is 220mm and the width is the backset plus 18mm.
Available in 35mm, or 45mm backsets.
Surelock multipoint door lock gearboxes feature a 24mm high latch (with 2 distinctive screws in the latch), a 30mm high deadbolt, and 61mm between them. Gearboxes are held onto the faceplate with 4 screws, which is unusual for a multipoint door lock. The first screw hole to the second measures 37mm, the second to the third measures 85mm, and the third to the fourth screw measures 43mm.
When measuring the backset, allow 2-3mm for the faceplate, so a 35mm backset gearbox will measure 32mm when not fixed to the strip.
Operation: Lift lever or split spindle
Latch reversal: Undo the screws in the latch to remove. Reverse and reinsert then replace screws.
Nightlatch split spindle reversal: Remove latch to reveal a small screw. Use a small bladed screwdriver to turn the screw 180 degrees then return the latch to the correct position.
To lock the door
1. On closing the door, the latch is automatically engaged.
2. Lift the handle up to engage the additional locking points.
3. Throw the deadbolt and lock the system by turning the key (on some brands, the deadbolt will be thrown by lifting the handle).
To unlock the door
1. Unlock the system by turning the key.
2. Push the handle downwards to disengage the locking points.
3. A further quarter turn of the key will retract the latch.

Avocet Timber/Composite Affinity Bastion Latch Deadbolt 4 Hooks Double Spindle Multipoint Door Lock
Quick ViewDoor Locks, Multipoint, Multipoint & UPVCAvocet Timber/Composite Affinity Bastion Latch Deadbolt 4 Hooks Double Spindle Multipoint Door Lock
0 out of 5(0)This Avocet multipoint door lock features 4 Hooks, 1 Deadbolt & 1 Latch.
Avocet multipoint door locks are easily identifiable once they are removed from the door. Faceplates are usually stamped with the Avocet logo, although older locks may have the “WMS” logo stamped. Gearboxes are uniquely shaped, with the cut out extending below the latch, which is unique when identifying multipoint locks.
Avocet multipoint door locks were originally available in a wide range of different configurations featuring hooks, rollers, deadbolts and an Affinity Bastion lock with opposing hooks. Earlier versions of Avocet multipoint locks were made in yellow passivated steel, which have a distinctive brassy colour. Recently, the locks have changed with faceplates made from a stainless steel or a Trivalent silver finish.
When these locks swapped from yellow passivated to silver, the majority of variations were replaced. Notable exceptions include the 2 roller and 2 mushroom lock as well as the shorter version of the 3 deadbolt lock designed for use on caravans. Please contact us if you would like assistance finding the best replacements for these locks.
Also, it’s worth noting some Avocet multipoint door locks feature a “sash lifter” device. This device was designed to help ensure the correct sash to frame alignment but these are no longer available so we would recommend replacing these locks with the standard version.
Most Avocet locks are only available in a 35mm backset, but the Affinity Bastion lock is designed for composite doors and feature a 45mm backset.
Although some original Avocet multipoint 4 roller door locks feature a single spindle and lift lever functionality, all current locks are only available in a double spindle nightlatch configuration. The centres are at 62mm and 92mm, but if the nightlatch functionality is not required, the lock can still be used as a lift lever version using the top spindle.
All Avocet locks which are designed for PVCu with a flat 16mm faceplate have the ability to accept shootbolts.
Avocet gearboxes measure 218mm high x backset + 15mm. It’s the large cut out in the top corner, that extends below the latch which makes them unique. This feature can assist with the fitment of handles as the screws are located above the lever.
Avocet gearboxes feature a latch that is 29mm high and a deadbolt that is 34mm high with a distance of 82mm between the top of the deadbolt and the bottom of the latch.
These gearboxes are not attached to the strip using conventional screws or rivets. Instead, the gearboxes are held by arms which connect using circlips. While it’s possible to remove a gearbox from a full Avocet lock, we would advise replacing the full unit. Also, it’s worth noting the design of the arms have changed over time and older gearboxes have a flat clip. Newer versions have a slightly curved connecting arm located lower down making gearbox swaps with newer for older versions impossible.
When measuring the backset, allow 2-3mm for the faceplate, so a 35mm backset gearbox will measure 32mm when not fixed to the strip.
Avocet hooks throw in opposing directions, with the top hook going upwards, and the bottom hook throwing downwards. Hook boxes are 123mm high and doors that are normally prepared to 150mm will accept the hook case.
Avocet deadbolts feature a 20mm throw made from nickel plated brass. The deadbolt gearboxes feature a distinctive chamfered design, in contrast to the square design of Avocet hook cases.

Roto Elite Latch Deadbolt 2 Hooks Key Wind Multipoint Door Lock
Quick ViewDoor Locks, Multipoint, Multipoint & UPVCRoto Elite Latch Deadbolt 2 Hooks Key Wind Multipoint Door Lock
0 out of 5(0)This Elite Key Wind multipoint door lock features 2 Hooks, 1 Deadbolt & 1 Latch.
Elite key wind multipoint door locks are predominantly used on timber and composite doors. These locks are often fitted to doors with long pull handles where there is no need to lift a lever to engage the locking points. They are available in standard and “Heritage” (where the gearbox is higher up the door) configurations. These locks are made in Europe and feature a “Silbear” coating which offers 480 hours salt spray protection.
Identifying an Elite lock starts with the faceplate, which should be stamped with an Elite logo. Keywind locks feature a 20mm radius faceplate and are likely fitted to a door with a pull handle, rather than a traditional lever on plate.
While many Elite locks resemble the old Roto MVD range or “Roto mark 2” locks, key wind locks look a little different. They feature the same latches as the automatic locks but the operation of the lock is different. For further information, please refer to the “Operation” heading.
Elite keywind gearboxes are available as a 35mm or 45mm backset, single spindle lock. There’s no need for a double spindle version as that feature is not used on an automatic locking gearbox. The same gearbox is used for both standard and heritage versions of the Elite automatic gearbox.
Elite gearboxes measure 200mm high x backset + 19mm. Be sure to account for 2mm for the faceplate when measuring the backset.
Gearbox deadbolts project 20mm and are 32mm high. The latch is 30mm high and projects 10mm. There is 63mm between the bottom of the latch and the top of the deadbolt.
Centres are positioned at 62mm and 92mm, with the top spindle being 122mm from the bottom of the case. Single spindle locks have a round hole where the second spindle would normally be located. The gearbox is pierced to accept a bolt through fixing 19mm from the top spindle, and the slot above that, for fixings is 42mm above the spindle.

Millenco Mantis 1 Latch 3 Hooks 2 Deadbolts Double Spindle Multipoint Door Lock
Quick ViewDoor Locks, Multipoint, Multipoint & UPVCMillenco Mantis 1 Latch 3 Hooks 2 Deadbolts Double Spindle Multipoint Door Lock
0 out of 5(0)This Millenco Mantis 1 multipoint door lock features 3 Hooks, 2 Deadbolts & 1 Latch.
The original Mantis 1 lock has a unique gearbox featuring 86/117mm centres. Please note that older versions of this lock do not have any markings on the faceplate. If you are replacing a 24 or 44mm faceplate lock, please use this product and retain the original faceplate.
Millenco Mantis 1 multipoint door locks are the original Millenco locks. They feature unique measurements of 117mm and 86mm centres (PZ) and now form part of the Yale group of companies.
Mantis 1 multipoint locks are available 3 different variants: 3 hooks and 2 deadbolts, 3 hooks and 2 deadbolts with 2 rollers and a 4 roller version. There is also a passive lock version. Historically, Mantis 1 locks have been produced with hooks and deadbolts in different locations. Unfortunately, those locks are no longer available, so some work will be required to reposition keeps and locking positions.
The variant without rollers was often used on timber and composite doors, whereas the version with rollers was used on UPVC doors. You may come across Mantis 1 locks with a cover plate fitted, to match the, often composite, door installation. That cover plate is either 24mm or 44mm wide and locks with this feature are no longer available. However it is possible to re-use this cover plate on your replacement lock. A linkage plate runs behind the cover plate, so it is possible to swap the 16mm faceplate to the older 24mm or 44mm faceplate without much trouble. The linkage will likely be longer than your existing installation, so will need trimming before fitting.
Identifying a Millenco Mantis 1 multipoint door lock is straightforward as it is the only lock on the market with a double spindle, 117mm and 86mm centres. This is the best way to ensure that you have the correct lock as early versions of these locks had no brand stamped on the faceplate.
Millenco Mantis 1 gearboxes are only available in one configuration and backset. The configuration is double spindle for lift lever or double spindle nightlatch operation. The only backset available is 35mm.
Mantis 1 gearboxes are some of the largest on the market, measuring 260mm high by 53mm wide. They feature a central hook bolt that is 45mm high and a latch which measures 23mm high and projects 11mm.
Even though the faceplate can be unscrewed, a Mantis 1 gearbox cannot be swapped with a replacement as it is connected to the linkage rail that runs behind the faceplate. However, repair parts are now available to repair existing gearboxes. Please refer to our multipoint lock gearbox category for details.
Millenco hooks are comprised of a hook that moves upwards and a deadbolt, immediately below it. Hook cases measure 140mm by 48mm and the deadbolts throw 20mm into their keeps.

Rollers are manufactured from nickel plated brass. They are used for compression, to pull the door against the frame, to help prevent dust or water ingress. They do little for security, but they also have the added benefit of helping to prevent the door from becoming warped as it is supported across its full height. This is dependent on the rollers being engaged into their keeps.
